Better Together: Shared Learning in Ramle and Lod as a type of English CLIL

Dear English teachers,

Central Region, the English Inspectorate, the Headquarter for Civic Education and Shared Life and CET (Center for Educational Technology) are glad to invite you to register to an in-service course for English teachers as part of the "Shared Learning: Better Together" program in Ramle. “Better Together” fosters partnerships between schools from various educational streams in order to promote conversational, reading and writing skills in English, as well as 21^st century skills for life in a diverse society. The program is based on the Northern Irish model, which promotes pedagogic excellence through shared learning.

This year, the training will introduce the concept of CLIL (=Content and Language Integrated Learning) – an educational approach in which language (English) is used as a medium to teach / experience other topics. We believe that Shared Learning is an ideal platform for CLIL where English skills are not taught in isolation, but students practice in interdisciplinary experiences, see the value of what they are learning and become more actively engaged.

Shared Learning aims to nurture conversation, reading and writing skills to promote communication in daily contexts, in line with the new English teaching curriculum, through shared lessons of schools from different educational sectors.

This training course's goals include:

Understanding / deepening our knowledge about Shared Learning – based on the Northern Irish model as well as the experience in Israel among Jewish and Arab schools in the past years.

Introducing CLIL as a pedagogic practice and looking at the ways in which Shared Learning can be used as a form of English CLIL.

Practicing Shared Learning tools, including through shared creation or experience of art.

Co-planning and implementation of shared lessons and their adaptation to the settings and requirements of each pair of schools.

Fostering tolerance and the values of shared society in our mixed city and classes.

Nurturing our community of practice as a forum of learning and consultation

The course is a 60-hour course with a score, recognized for אופק חדש ועוז לתמורה, including workshops, lectures, collaboration and planning shared lessons

In order to receive advanced training, participants must take an active part in all parts of the course: face to face, asynchronous, implementation of the shared learning and execution of a summary task.

The course face-to-face meetings, through Zoom or in person as conditions allow, will take place from 15:00-18:00 in the following dates:

All meetings are on Wednesdays. Face to face meetings will be at the English Center (6 Ha-zayit st. Ramle)

 Please note: we plan to have a half-day guided tour and one workshop – if conditions allow. These activities are required. Dates will be decided soon.
